JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for an energetic, highly self-motivated, and detail-oriented Automation/Controls Engineer with a demonstrated ability to conceive and lead the development of custom lab automation solutions. As a member of the design team, you will be responsible for designing and developing control system solutions for small to medium size custom industrial automation machines. This job will also support other engineers in designing and completing their projects as well.

They understand and enjoy working in the challenging and stimulating environment of custom automated machine building.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics from an accredited
  • 5-7+ years of machine control/automation design and programming experience, preferably on custom machines. Lab automation equipment experience is a
  • Experience with selection, configuration, and programming of PLC (e.g., AB Controllogix), PC (e.g., NI LabView), and embedded (e.g., Rabbit, Arduino) control
  • Experience with selection, configuration, and programming of HMI’s (e.g., PanelView).
  • Experience with DCS and SCADA communication networks and protocols and automation communication protocols (e.g., DeviceNet, Ethernet/IP, )
  • Ability to assemble/wire components and systems, including, control panels and
  • Experience creating appropriate manufacturing documentation (e.g., theory of operation, wiring schematics, panel layouts, user manuals, )
  • Factory floor troubleshooting experience and computer and networking
  • Working knowledge of industrial and utility electrical control and protection system codes (e.g., NFPA 70/79, UL 508, CE, ).
  • Experience with ECAD tools for schematic capture, and the development process for printed circuit
  • Experience with a wide variety of automation components (e.g., motors, drives, sensors, vision systems, ).
  • Mechanically inclined, strong problem solving skills, hands-on
  • Strong oral and written communication 
KEY PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

Automation/Controls Engineering: Engineers at Intense deliver robust design solutions for our clients. These responsibilities cover all phases of development, from brainstorming and evaluating concepts through troubleshooting and support on the factory floor. This role requires attention to the big picture as well as the details that make a difference. In this role, you will:

  • Work closely with Mechanical Design team to properly integrate controls components into overall design. Coordinate with Mechanical Design team to ensure design intent and cost effectiveness is
  • Design and implement electro-mechanical control system solutions for custom automated
  • Review and/or generate technical documentation (e.g., URS/FRS/DDS lifecycle documentation, manuals, drawings, schematics, BOMs, ).
  • Assist with machine assembly, testing, and debug, including: FAT/SAT, field-testing and commissioning.
  • Travel to customer sites for launch meetings, design reviews, research, installation, and troubleshooting.
  • Manage individual project budgets and schedules and routinely report
  • Assist with preparation of quotations and sales proposals for new jobs. Perform basic cost analysis to justify automation

Our custom equipment is typically utilized by companies seeking to improve throughput, quality, and human factors in both laboratory and production processes. We also have a strong background developing products that incorporate a high degree of technical complexity (e.g., complex mechanisms, microfluidics, digital imaging, etc.).

  • Experience creating design documentation (e.g., theory of operation, 3D/2D CAD data, user manuals, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience assembling and troubleshooting mechanical systems.

  • Support design teams with your expertise to ensure solutions that are both robust and feasible.
  • Capture and document informal and formal design requirements.
  • Create robust mechanical solutions that achieve the highest level of design quality and fidelity to design requirements.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate production materials, technologies, and suppliers.
  • Design and supervise the production of prototypes.
  • Design mechanical parts and assemblies, delivering detailed, production-ready 3D CAD SolidWorks models and 2D drawings
  • Collaborate with 3rd party development partners and client technical teams to solve system design issues including integration of mechanical components, electro-mechanical hardware, and software.
